A friendly Nigerian family is looking for an experienced English speaking governess for their twins, a boy and a girl aged 8.
The role:
Our client based in Abuja seeks an English-language governess (ideally with a clear British accent) to support two children with their schooling and general wellbeing.
The role of the governess will be to liaise with school and tutors and to oversee a schedule that promotes sports, health and independence. This is primarily an educational position so the governess must have teaching qualifications and teaching experience and be ready to help with homework, holiday work etc. The candidate will be expected to work on children’s development, arrange the schedule, create assignments where necessary, communicate with school teachers and write reports on their progress. Any additional knowledge of French language would be a plus (but is non-essential as the kids already have a French tutor).
The schedule for the job will typically consist of waking early and helping the children to get ready for school. At this point the driver will take them to school and the governess will have free time to rest and to prepare lessons and activities for after-school time. The charges will be collected from school in the afternoon and the governess can spend time with them until bedtime.
The family lives in a private, secure residence in a safe area and employs full-time nannies, chef, housekeeper and drivers, so the candidate will be free to focus on education and free-time. The governess should be professionally presented when at work.
The parents would ideally like the governess to work 6 days per week with a weekday off. 5 days per week may also be possible at a lower salary point.
This is a live-in position, the governess will be provided with a separate room + bathroom in the family residence with a separate entrance.
The candidate:
The candidate should be friendly, active, caring, responsible and have at least 5 years’ relevant experience with children of the same age. A background in teaching and professional governess work is key.
The ideal candidate will have a clear British accent (the kids will ultimately attend school in the UK), and a positive attitude. The kids are into sports (hobbies include sports, tennis, football, gymnastics, sewing, swimming, cookery) so an interest in any of these would be beneficial.
The family are looking for someone calm and confident but with good energy and able to build a bond with the kids. Travel with the family may be required so the candidate should be flexible, confident with travel and ready to work in a team.
The offer:
One year contract
Salary of £6000/ month
6 days per week (time off during day), 1 weekday off
Live-in position with food provided
Flights, work expenses covered
4 weeks’ paid salary and 5 days’ paid sick leave per annum
