A friendly UK-based family seeks a qualified and experienced governess to homeschool two 9-year old children. The family seek an active and engaging teacher to join their family on a long-term basis in Anglesey, North Wales. The children have been homeschooled since COVID.
The family live on a farm and is very active, so a candidate with a love of the outdoors and ready to embrace life on the farm would be a perfect fit. The parents are big believers in sustainable and green living (solar power, onsite water), and would like to continue providing a ‘green’ or ‘forest school’ learning environment for the children. There is lots of available space both indoors and outdoors for lessons. The mother will also be happy to provide support when needed. The candidate should be ready to focus on practical and life skills, not simply academics. The children should be involved in growing fruits and vegetables and occasional care of animals amongst other tasks.
The family would like the governess/ governor to be a warm and positive individual who can be a strong role model for the children as the progress through their schooling. They need an organised and proactive candidate, happy to take the lead in the logistics of the homeschooling program. Extra time for planning and preparation will be given. The candidate has room to be creative and innovative to help the children stay enthused with their education. The role itself is suitable for PGCE qualified candidate with substantial experience teaching primary. Previous experience teaching in a homeschool setting would be a huge plus.
The family has homes in London and overseas- these could also be used as a base for educational and pastoral trips. The family want the children to succeed academically but also put a large focus on pastoral and social development. Time can be allocated each week to social events with other homeschool children in the area. The family also encourages trips and excursions to support learning.
The family are also considering employing a teaching assistant for further support, or are open to a couple taking on the role if they feel that they are suitable candidates for the position. They are also aware of the possible need for subject-specific tutors to be involved in a supporting capacity throughout the week.
The working week will be Monday – Friday, and the family are ready provide a fully-furnished separate home on their property with all bills included. If the governess has a partner or children, there is also the possibility for them to join the candidate pending a successful placement.
A confident driver would be a plus. The family can provide access to a car when required.
The salary on offer for this position is negotiable from £52000 per annum.
This is a great opportunity to work long term with a lovely family in a picturesque part of the UK.
Interviews with selected candidates to take place ASAP, with the role to commence after the Christmas school holidays, replacing the current governess who is leaving for personal reasons. Working with the current governess and the handover period will be the first part of the role.
