An international family based in Englefield Green in Surrey seeks a career governess and educator to work with their two children: a 5-year old boy and a 3-year old girl.
The role and family:
The family have travelled around and are now settled in the UK – they are looking for a stable governess, someone firm but fun, to support their children’s education. The children speak some French and Swedish but the primary focus for the governess should be on English language, so native-level English and a clean British accent will be strongly prioritised for this role. The governess will need to coordinate with school and nursery staff, help with homework and contribute to planning and accompanying the children to any extra-curricular activities as required.
The family currently employs two nannies, although one nanny will soon be leaving. The governess would therefore be working alongside the remaining live-in nanny. Experience working as part of a household team is essential. The governess’ schedule will be from Monday to Friday, 3-8pm, with additional hours available to be paid pro rata.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience working in a governess position and will be open to working with the family long-term, beginning with a one-year contract. Suitable qualifications would ideally be a BA or MA in teaching, education or languages. A Norland Nanny certificate or similar would also be considered.
Good references from previous positions are essential. The candidate should act in a ‘big sister’ role, encouraging and mentoring the children and encouraging proper behaviour and etiquette as they get older. Additional focus can be given to the children’s general tidiness and discipline. A patient and caring personality is something the family sees as essential in a candidate.
When the family travel they may ask the governess to accompany them, so flexibility and an adventurous nature are key for this role. In general the family supports a healthy lifestyle – eating and living well and encouraging sports.
This is a live-out role (although if desired, the candidate could perhaps live in later) – initially a supplement for a live-out apartment close to the family home can be provided.
The salary for this role is negotiable for the right candidate, from £52,000 per annum.
The governess should have a driving licence and be a confident driver – a car can be provided for driving during work hours (although the candidate should make her own way to/from work).
No cooking or cleaning is required.
